The strength of the Barry Keen & Sons brand is understandable when one considers that the family boasts over 40 years in the blinds trade. Having started out in '68 in the former Rhodesia, Barry moved south in 1970 and opened for business in George, operating from the caravan park. He recalls cleaning blinds by standing in the middle of the Malgas River... in the middle of Winter!
In 1975, Barry's first shop was opened in George Langenhoven Street, branded Keen's Solar protection. It was the first company at the time to combine blinds and awnings under one roof - all others specialised in either one or the other.
Seven years later, Martin Spies joined Barry and the name Keens + Kenmar emerged. This business was eventually taken over by Martin and although it still bears his name, Keen's + Kenmar is not affiliated in any way to Barry Keen & Sons.
Barry Keen & Sons does not only serve the local market - they have been used by leading architects, decorators and designers from all over South Africa and have an outlet for their products in Cape Town, called Shutters Cape. Their products have even been sent to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Australia. So if you are after a combination of quality, value and service you will know where to call.
